Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX500 tested

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX500 tested -
The new Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX500 features a 5x super-wide angle Leica zoom lens with optical image stabilizer, equivalent to 25-125mm in 35mm format.

Our test results show that the FX500 delivers very high overall image quality, with precise color, white balance and ISO speeds. Its image noise levels are reasonable well controlled, with very little color noise, but fairly large grain with considerable grey level differences (standard deviation) and mediocre signal-to-noise ratio.

The optical performance is generally very good, considering its extreme wide angle. Alhough color fringing is extreme in small parts of the corners, mean values are very good. Also, distortion and vignetting is exceptionally well controlled, even at full 25mm wide angle. Image sharpness is very good at all focal lengths, though a bit blurry at full telephoto.
