Leica and Olympus 25mm lenses tested
Although being far heavier and more expensive, but also more powerful, the Leica lens only marginally delivers better overall performance than the Olympus "pancake" lens. Image sharpness is quite similar at comparable apertures, the same goes for chromatic aberration, resolving power and vignetting. The only major difference is seen in the measurements of geometric distortion, which is virtually invisible with the Leica lens.
The comparison test may come as a pleasant surprise to many Olympus and Panasonic DSLR camera owners. Although the Zuiko 25mm f/2.8 is two f-stops slower, it outperfoms the Leica alternative by far in terms of compactness, weight and price.
Full test results of the Zuiko Digital 25mm f/2.8 with the Olympus E-3 are available here.
Full test results of the Leica D Summilux 25mm f/1.4 Asph. with the Olympus E-3 are available here.
