Test results of Canon EOS 1000D
Our test results from the Canon EOS 1000D has just been published. The test was performed with the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS standard zoom lens and showed that its image quality does not quite match that of its more expensive sibling, the EOS 450D.
New Olympus, Sony and Tamron zoom lenses tested
Three new zoom lenses have been added to our list of lens tests. The outstanding Olympus Zuiko Digital ED 35-100 mm f/2.0 is accompanied by the high performer Sony 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 G SSM, and the affordable all-in-one Tamron AF28-300mm f/3.5.6.3 XR Di VC LD Asph. IF Macro. UPDATE: Lens tested on full frame sensor with the Canon EOS 5D.
Nikon D700 with 24-120mm tested
Nikon D700 is a combination of two popular Nikon D-SLR's, with a shell similar to the D300 and an interiour virtually identical to the fully professional D3. With the sophisticated DxO Analyzer v3 software, DIWA Labs have tested the performance of the D700, as well as the universal AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 24-120mm f/3.5-5.6G (IF) ED standard zoom lens.
Canon EF 200mm f/2L IS USM tested on EOS 5D
Canon's new super-fast telephoto lens, the EF 200mm f/2L IS USM has just left the DIWA Labs test bench. On all accounts, the lens performs brilliantly when stopping down the lens two f-stops on a full frame camera.
Canon EOS 5D re-tested
The Canon EOS 5D was originally tested with our previous version of the DxO Analyzer software, before the launch of our DIWA Labs website. As a successor is expected soon, we have re-tested the EOS 5D to support our comparison function whenever the "new 5D" appears.
Tests of Sony Cyber-shot T300 and W170 added
Two Sony compact cameras, both with 10 MP image resolution and 5x Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar zoom lenses, but otherwise quite different, left our test bench today. Both the super-compact Cyber-shot DSC-T300, and the slightly larger Cyber-shot DSC-W170, delivered quite ordinary test results.
Eight new compacts tested
Today, test results of eight new compact cameras were added to our list. They include Canon PowerShot A590 IS and Digital IXUS 80 IS (PowerShot SD1100 IS in the US), Nikon Coolpix S600, P60 and P80, as well as Fujifilm FinePix F100fd, Sigma DP1 and Samsung NV24HD.
Side-by-side comparison function added
Comparing test results of two different cameras or lenses are now made easier. From a drop-down list, you may select a different product from the same category and compare the test results side-by-side, even enlarged graphs. A selection list of tested lenses is also added.
Lab test of Olympus E-520
The Olympus E-520 has left our test lab with quite convincing results, with considerably improvements over its predecessor, the E-510. Not surprisingly, the E-520 performs virtually identical to the E-420 in terms of image noise, color rendition, sharpness and resolution.
ISO graphs changed
A number of readers have alerted us that our graphs for ISO sensitivity give an opposite impression of the actual test result. We have studied their comments and agree. Therefore, all graphs for ISO sensitivity are now replaced.
Carl Zeiss 24-70mm f/2.8 tested on Sony Alpha 700
Another high performance lens was tested today, the Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* DT 24-70mm f/2.8 ZA. The camera used was the current top model from Sony, the Alpha 700. As expected, the test results were brilliant, with no optical flaws of importance.
Pentax and Tokina 50-135mm f/2.8 tested
Today, we have performed a very interesting test - two virtually identical lenses tested on two different cameras, the Pentax DA* 50-135mm f/2.8 ED IF SDM on the Pentax K20D, and the Tokina AT-X Pro DX 50-135mm f/2.8 on the Canon EOS 40D. As expected, the lenses performed quite similar, except for camera related differences.
Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS tested on EOS 450D
Canon EOS 450D is one of the most popular D-SLR cameras on the market, delivering surprisingly high image quality at a very attractive price. Our test of its standard zoom lens gave rather disappointing results. Now the supplementary telezoom lens, the EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS has gone through the same rigorous test, also with rather low scores.
Zuiko Digital ED 14-35mm f/2.0 SWD tested on E-3
The new Zuiko Digital ED 14-35mm f/2.0 SWD has just been tested on the Olympus E-3 professional D-SLR camera. The lens covers a zoom range equivalent to 28-70 mm in 35mm format, with a constant super-fast speed of f/2.0 and a fast Silent Wave Drive AF motor.
Casio Exilim EX-F1 test results available
The Casio Exilim EX-F1 features the world's fastest continuous shooting capability, with up to 60 fps at 6 MP image resolution. The camera has a 12x zoom lens, which we have put to the test together with the camera's other image quality related performances.
Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX500 tested
The new mini-compact Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX500 has just passed our testing procedure with the DxO Analyzer image quality testing software. Despite its small size and 5x zoom with a wide angle equivalent to 25mm, the camera delivered very good overall test results.
The new, exciting Fujifilm FinePix S100FS tested
This 11 MP megazoom camera from Fujifilm has the design and size of a DSLR, but features a fixed Fujinon 14.3x zoom lens with optical image stabilizer, equivalent to 28-400mm f/2.8-5.3. Despite its enormous zoom range, the lens delivered excellent overall test results. Also camera performance was good, although not quite like a DSLR.
Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 test results published
Complete test results of the extremely compact TZ5 are now available. The TZ5 is equipped with a 10x wide angle Leica zoom lens with built-in optical image stabilizer, the world's smallest camera in its class. Despite its small size, the lens performs very well in most respects, virtually at all settings.
Test of Canon EOS 450D and PowerShot S5 IS now available
Two popular Canon cameras for photo enthusiasts have just left our test bench, the EOS 450D, a brand new budget-priced DSLR with its new standard zoom lens, and the PowerShot S5 IS, Canon's latest 12x megazoom camera, both with optical image stabilizer.
Olympus E-420, SP-570UZ and µ1020 tested
Test results from three new Olympus cameras have recently been added to our list of cameras. In addition to the E-420 published last week, we have added the 20x megazoom camera SP-570UZ and the compact 7x zoom camera µ 1020 to the list.
Nikon D60 with AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 VR tested
The successor of the popular Nikon D40x, the Nikon D60, has just been tested. Like its predecessor, the D60 passed all our tests in style, with measurements very close to its bigger brother, the Nikon D300.
Full test reports of Pentax K20D and K200D now available
Our tests of the brand new Pentax DSLR models, the K20D and the K200D, has just been completed. Both cameras were tested with the new standard DA 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 II lens, the K20D also with the more powerful DA 16-50mm f/2.8 ED IF SDM zoom.
Sony Alpha 200 and Alpha 350 tested

Nikon D300 test updated with Nikkor and Tamron lenses
The lenses tested with the Nikon D300 was today updated three more original Nikon lenses, the 17-55mm and the two brand new Nikkor 16-85mm and the 60mm Micro Nikkor. Also added was the new Tamron 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3.
Five new lens tests with the Olympus E-3
Our extensive test of the Olympus E-3 have today been updated with five Zuiko Digital ED lenses, the 11-22mm f/2.8-3.5, the 18-180mm f/3.5-6.3, the 50-200mm f/2.8-3.5, the 50mm f/2 Macro and the 150mm f/2 with EC-14 teleconverter.
Three new lenses tested with Sony Alpha 700
Three lenses has been added to our test of the Sony Alpha 700: The Carl Zeiss DT 16-80 mm f/3.5-4.5 ZA, the Sony 50mm f/1.4 and the Sony 50mm f/2.8 Macro.
Three Canon EF lens tests added to EOS-1Ds Mark III
Three powerful fixed focal length Canon EF lenses, the EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM, the EF 50mm f/1.2L USM and the EF 50mm f/1.4 USM, was today added to the list of lenses tested with the Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III.
Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III tested
Test results for the full frame DSLR Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III were posted today. The lens used was the Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L USM.
Nikon D3 with Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8 tested
Neil Armstrong's famous words came to mind after testing the Nikon D3: "A small step for technology, a giant leap for photography". The D3 raises the questions: Noise - What noise? Image stabilizer - Why image stabilizer? The Nikon D3 paves the way for low noise high ISO photography.
Test of Olympus SP-560UZ added
Full test results of the Olympus SP-560 Ultra Zoom are now available. The camera features a very compact 18x zoom lens and ISO speeds up to ISO 3200 at full 8 MP image resolution, unfortunately at the expenses of image quality.
